Message from Secretary

The prime function of the Excise and Taxation Department remains collection of taxes and their regulation. The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sets a revenue target at the beginning of each financial year and the excise and taxation department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa uses all its resources to achieve this target through the various provincial taxes levied by the government. The strategy to achieve the ends remains simple-voluntary tax compliance by the potential tax payees by creating a tax friendly environment induced through simplification of tax collection process  involving information technology to the maximum.

The Excise and Taxation Department remains committed to its defined goal and strategies based on improvement of governance at all levels. The department had come up with project of establishing "tax facilitation centre" at four cities (Peshawar, Abbottabad, D.I.Khan and Nowshera) where tax payees would be provided with 'one window operation' in all matters from dealing with payment of taxes to collection of registration plates of motor vehicles by the owners. as no taxation measure could pay off without the presence of competent and motivated staff, The department emphasis is on recruiting the best brains as well as focusing on capacity building of the existing staff. Polices with regard to training of staff and incentivization are being formulated in consultation with Finance Department.

In pursuit of its goals and set milestones, the Department is discovering new avenues of resource generation while surveys and computerization are helping extension of tax net, levy of new taxes helps add additional funds to the provincial exchequer.  in that it needs to be mentioned that the Department made a significant step towards financial autonomy when it established KPRA for collection of sales tax on services during July late, in the minimum possible time. Having its head office in Peshawar, the Authority is responsible for collection of sales tax on services and reaching out to new potential tax payers. Followed by sales tax on services, an infrastructure development cess was another newly enacted tax of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa revenue authority, levied on all import destined for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as on transit goods heading to or from another country.

It is expected that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority would become an important resource hub of the Provincial Government in time to come.
